PGPD Participates in District Heights Community Walk

The Prince George’s County Police Department will take part in a community walk this Saturday.  Prince George’s County Council Member Karen Toles is hosting the event.  

The 1.5 mile walk begins at the District Heights Volunteer Fire Department and wraps up at the shopping center in the 1400 block of Addison Road South.  Members of the PGPD Training staff will be on hand to lead the group in a stretching and warm-up exercise.

PGPD Investigates Murder in Hillcrest Heights

Update:  The victim in this case has been identified as 49 year-old Juan Renaldo Brown of the 3500 block of 7th Street SE, Washington DC.

On November 7, 2012, at approximately 7pm, police officers responded to the 3900 block of 23rd Parkway, Hillcrest Heights, for the report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound outside an apartment building.  The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are working to identify the suspect(s) and establish a motive in this case.  The investigation is ongoing.

PGPD Officers Honored for Their Military Service

The Glassmanor Citizens Association organized a Veterans Day program to honor local veterans, including nearly 30 Prince George’s County Police Officers.

The event took place November 3, 2012, at the Glassmanor Community Center in Oxon Hill.

The Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs presented certificates to each veteran recognized their service to the country. Participants also lit candles and placed wreaths to pay tribute to fallen heroes from the community.

PGPD Investigates Robbery in Chillum

The Prince George’s County Police Department is searching for the two suspects seen in the above surveillance photographs who are wanted for an armed robbery outside a Chillum bank. The incident took place in the 6400 block of New Hampshire Avenue around 5:30 am on November 5, 2012.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspects approached two victims as they were attempting to deposit a check at the ATM at the Bank of America branch. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victims and demanded money and property. The second suspect stole one of the victim’s wallets and car keys. The suspects then ran away. The victims were not hurt.

The first suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion between the ages of 16 and 21, 5’6” – 5’9” and 165 pounds. He was wearing a green hooded jacket, dark jeans, green Nike Foamposites, purple gloves, a black ski mask and was armed with a semi-automatic handgun. The second suspect is described as a black male, 16 to 18 years old, 5’5” – 5’7”, 155 pounds, a black Starter t-shirt worn over a black sweatshirt, black jeans, a black baseball cap with white designs, a black ski mask, and purple Nike Foamposites.

PGPD to Hand Out Free Child ID Kits

Attention all Prince George’s County parents: a member of the Prince George’s County Police Department’s District VI Community Oriented Police Section will visit Samuel Chase Elementary School in Temple Hills to distribute free Child ID Kits.

Once completed, these kits will contain vital information detectives would likely need to know about your child in case your child ever goes missing.  The kit includes an emergency contact sheet, the child’s picture, DNA and fingerprints.  The packages are also designed to educate parents and children on ways to stay safe and avoid a potential abduction.   Parents take home the complete kits.

UPDATE-PGPD Searches for Critical Missing Person

*Update, approximately 10:00 pm, on November 4, 2012, Flora Argandona was located in good health and returned home.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s help in finding a critical missing person identified as 72 year-old Flora Argandona. She was last seen around 4:30 pm on Sunday, November 4, 2012, in the 1900 block of Columbia Road in Northeast DC. Earlier in the day, she left her home in the 6300 block of 20th Avenue in Hyattsville to walk to a nearby church. It is not known how she traveled to the District.

Argandona is a Hispanic female, 4'10", 120 pounds, with brown eyes and gray hair. She was last seen wearing a red sweater, blue jeans and black boots. Argandona suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

PGPD Releases Photo of Suspect who Stole Veterans Affairs Check

The Prince George’s County Police Department is searching for the suspect seen in the above surveillance photograph.  It was taken a short time before he robbed a woman in the 8700 block of Branch Avenue in Clinton.  The incident occurred at 10 pm on October 26, 2012.

The investigation revealed that the suspect followed the victim to her vehicle after she cashed her Veterans Affairs check at a nearby business.  The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, approached the victim from behind and demanded her money.  The suspect then forced the victim to drive him several blocks away, where he exited and fled on foot near Suitland Rd and Regency Parkway.  The suspect is described as a black male wearing a blue shirt with a white stripe, blue jeans, and black Nike Air shoes.
