PGPD Announces Joint Effort to Help Domestic Assault Victims

Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw joined Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown for the ceremonial signing of a new program designed to help victims of domestic abuse. Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks and representatives from other law enforcement agencies also took part in the event at the Hyattsville Courthouse on October 23.


The Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence developed the Lethality Assessment Program as a tool to help law enforcement agencies combat domestic violence. It’s designed to connect high risk victims to domestic violence services, such as the hotline for the Family Crisis Center in Prince George's County. The program is an intervention process that features an evidence-based lethality screening tool and an accompanying protocol referral that provides direction for law enforcement, medical professionals, and others to initiate appropriate action based on the results of the screening process. The program will be used to determine the level of danger that a victim of domestic violence or their children faces.

All 30 law enforcement agencies in Prince George's County are committed to using the Lethality Assessment Program to identify those at risk and to assist victims of domestic violence and their children.

PGPD Searches for Murder Suspect

Michael Deangelo Briscoe, 24

Update: the Prince George's County Police Department arrested Michael Deangelo Briscoe in Alexandria, VA on October 25, 2012.  Briscoe is still in VA, awaiting extradition.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is searching for the suspect wanted in connection with a murder in Glenarden on Sunday, October 21, 2012. The suspect is identified as 24 year-old Michael Deangelo Briscoe of the 3100 block of 75th Avenue in Landover.


Police officers were called to a residence in the 8400 block of Hamlin Street in Glenarden around 2:45 am for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, police officers found the victim lying inside the home with gunshot wounds. She’s identified as 26 year-old Shariel McCutchen of the District. She did not survive her injuries.


The preliminary investigation reveals Briscoe shot McCutchen after she had been involved in a physical altercation with a second female inside the apartment. That female and the suspect are in a relationship. She was not hurt and did flee the scene and call for help.

A warrant has been issued for Briscoe. He is being charged with first and second degree murder and other charges.

Funeral Arrangements for Police Officer First Class Kevin Bowden

The funeral arrangements for Police Officer First Class Kevin Bowden have been finalized. POFC Bowden died from injuries sustained in a car crash on October 18, 2012.  Members of the public who wish to pay their respects are welcome to attend the viewings and memorial service.

First Viewing: Friday, October 26, 2012, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Lee’s Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road, Clinton, Maryland. Captain Douglas Garrett, the Assistant Commander of District IV, and Officer Luke Allen will be available to briefly speak with members of the media at 6:45 pm outside of the funeral home.

Second Viewing: Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 9:00 am-11:00 am, Saint Stephen’s Baptist Church, 5757 Temple Hill Road, Temple Hills, Maryland. Captain Douglas Garrett, the Assistant Commander of District IV, and Officer Luke Allen will be available to briefly speak with members of the media at 10:00 am outside of the church.

Memorial Service: Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 11:00 am-12:30 pm, Saint Stephen’s Baptist Church, 5757 Temple Hill Road, Temple Hills, Maryland.

Newly Sworn PGPD Officer Pops the Question at Graduation Ceremony

As he and fellow Session 121 graduates officially joined the Prince George’s County Police Department Tuesday night, recruit Ricky Wu was keeping a secret. He’d hopefully have more than one reason to celebrate. Just minutes after the graduation ceremony wrapped up, now Officer Wu used the lights and stage at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden to mark another milestone—a marriage proposal. He asked his girlfriend of more than two years to marry him. The very surprised Ashley Le happily accepted!

It’ll be a whirlwind day for the newly engaged Officer Wu—who was honored as Outstanding Student Officer. He reports for his first day of duty this evening at District II.

PGPD Participates in READesign Library Makeover Program

Members from the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Community Service Division and Target Brands, Inc. will be putting the finishing touches on the revitalized library at Thomas Stone Elementary School today. Target works in partnership with The Heart of America Foundation to create fun and inviting spaces for students to read, learn and grow that feature environmentally sustainable materials, new technology and thousands of new books.

Students will experience learning in an environment filled with vibrant paint, murals, and paintings by nationally known artists. The library has been equipped with new furniture and restocked with over 1,000 high-quality library books.

READesign Library Makeover program is designed to encourage local youth, corporate teams, and community members, to partner in community service through library beautification and improvement activities, book distributions and one-on-one reading activities with children.

PGPD Collecting Coats for Those in Need

The Prince George’s County Police Department is once again partnering with the One Warm Coat Organization to collect coats for those in need in our community. We are asking for clean, gently used coats and jackets. All sizes, colors and shapes are welcome. Last year, the department helped collect more than 1,500 coats and we’d love to get even more this year!


One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that supports and encourages coat drives. It helps individuals, groups, companies and organizations across the country collect coats and deliver them free of charge to people in need. More than 1,000,000 coats have been collected since 1992.

Collection boxes are set-up at locations throughout Prince George’s County including at the six PGPD district stations.
