March 2013 Patrol Officers of the Month

Prince George’s County patrol officers suit up every day to serve the people of the county.  Their good works too often go unnoticed.  Here are patrol officers of the month for March.

District I Police Officer of the Month
Police Officer First Class Che’Lavonn Atkinson

On March 12, 2013, Police Officer First Class Che’Lavonn Atkinson responded to the 3400 block of 55th Avenue in Hyattsville for the report of an armed robbery.  As he arrived in the area,  PFC Atkinson stopped four men matching the suspects’ descriptions.  One of the men resisted a pat down and attempted to pull a gun from his waistband.  PFC Atkinson wrestled him to the ground and placed him under arrest.  A significant amount of marijuana, crack cocaine and heroin were recovered from the four suspects as well.

District II Police Officers of the Month
Police Officer First Class David Freshly

Police Officer Thomas Kosakowski

On March 17, 2013, Police Officer First Class David Freshly and Police Officer Thomas Kosakowski were called to a business in the 9300 block of D’Arcy Road in Upper Marlboro for the report of a suspicious vehicle on private property.  Once on scene, the patrol officers located a van with stolen license plates, a popped ignition and three fuel drums. A perimeter was set up around the property.  With the assistance of the aviation and canine units, two suspects were arrested.

District III Police Officer of the Month
Police Officer Andre Thompson

On March 21, 2013, Police Officer Andre Thompson responded to a burglary at a fast food restaurant in the 7500 block of Landover Road in Landover.  The suspect had hidden in the restroom until the business had closed, then stole the cash register, a laptop and food.  Officer Thompson reviewed the surveillance video and immediately recognized the suspect.  Officer Thompson obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.  On March 27, 2013, the suspect returned to the restaurant.   When Officer Thompson arrived, he arrested the suspect.  Officer Thompson also recovered crack cocaine during the arrest.

District IV Police Officers of the Month
Police Officer First Class Jesus Yambot

Police Officer Justice Halsey

On March 13, 2013, Police Officer First Class Jesus Yambot and Police Officer Justice Halsey were patrolling the Hillcrest community in the area of 28th Avenue.  The patrol officers spotted a silver vehicle illegally parked with two passengers inside.  When PFC Yambot and PO Halsey tried to conduct an investigative stop, the driver got out of the vehicle holding a gun.  The patrol officers ordered him to drop the weapon.  The suspect complied.   The patrol officers recovered the loaded gun, an extended magazine and drugs.

District V Police Officer of the Month
Police Officer Anthony Oliver

On March 14, 2013, Police Officer Anthony Oliver was dispatched to the 5200 block of Morris Avenue in Camp Springs for the report of a cutting.  Officers set up a perimeter and the Canine Unit conducted a track to find the suspect. A short time after the perimeter was dissolved, PO Oliver continued to patrol the area.  He located a man matching the suspect’s description.  The patrol officer ordered the suspect to surrender and show his hands since he was still possibly carrying a knife.  The suspect surrendered without incident.
