Detectives Recover Two Guns & PCP Stashed in Freezer

Tom Thorton

Nathaniel Beckham

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested two suspects in connection with an armed robbery in Greenbelt.  The suspects are identified as 30-year-old Tom Collins Thorton of the 8400 block of Greenbelt Road in Greenbelt and 28-year-old Nathaniel Beckham of the 1700 block of Ruston Avenue in Capitol Heights.

On August 20, 2013, at about 4:00 am, patrol officers were called to the 9700 block of Good Luck Road for the report of an armed robbery. Thorton and Beckham had confronted the victim as he was walking down the street.  The suspects held the victim at gunpoint.  They stole the victim's cell phone and wallet and demanded his bank card PIN number before running away.  A short time later, the suspects used the victim’s bank card at an ATM.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives developed Thorton as a suspect. He was arrested on August 21, 2013.  Detectives searched Thorton’s car and recovered two handguns as well as the victim’s wallet and cell phone.  In his home, detectives found PCP in the freezer and digital scales with drug residue.

Further investigation led detectives to develop Beckham as the second suspect in the armed robbery.  He was arrested August 27, 2013.  Thorton and Beckham admitted their involvement.  Both face multiple charges related to the robbery and remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Anyone with information about these suspects is asked to please call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Regional Investigation Division - Central at 301-390-2160.  Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411–TIPS (8477), text “PGPD plus your message” to CRIMES (274637) on your cell phone or go to http://www.pgcrimesolvers.com and submit a tip online.
