PGPD Honors Patrol Officers of the Month

Posted on 5:39 AM by Unknown

Rain or shine, Prince George’s County Police patrol officers work around the clock to protect and serve the residents of this county.  Too often their good police work goes unnoticed.  We’d like to introduce you to the patrol officers of the month for July 2013.

District I Police Officer of the Month
Corporal Anthony Jackson

On July 31, 2013, Corporal Anthony Jackson responded to the 3500 block of Bunker Hill Road for the report of a robbery.  While securing the perimeter, Corporal Jackson spotted one of the suspects.  He was able to quickly arrest that suspect and also help coordinate the return of some of the victim’s property.  Two other suspects were also arrested in connection with the robbery.

District II Police Officer of the Month
Corporal Douglas Easter

On July 15, 2013, Corporal Douglas Easter conducted a traffic stop on Campus Way South.  While approaching the driver, Corporal Easter noticed a strong odor of suspected marijuana.  He also discovered the car was not registered and made the decision to have the car impounded.  During an inventory of the car, Corporal Easter found a backpack with nearly 90 grams of suspected marijuana.  The driver was taken into custody on drug charges.

District III Police Officer of the Month
Police Officer First Class Marcus Halsey

On July 22, 2013, Police Officer First Class Marcus Halsey was called to the 4200 block of Suitland Road for the report of a burglary in progress.  When arriving on scene, POFC Halsey spotted a car matching the suspect vehicle.  The car hit a curb and the passengers jumped out.  POFC Halsey chased the suspects and quickly arrested one of them.  POFC Halsey then helped direct other responding patrol officers in the direction of the other suspects.  Patrol officers were able to arrest the three other suspects.  The follow-up investigation revealed the same suspects were also responsible for another burglary in the area.

District IV Police Officer of the Month
Police Officer Ariel Acosta

On July 11, 2013, Police Officer Aerial Acosta was conducting a traffic stop on Livingston Road when he heard a call dispatched for a young child who had hung himself in window blind cords.  When PO Acosta realized he was just a few blocks away, he rushed to help. When he arrived, the child was on the floor, blue and unresponsive.  PO Acosta and a family member immediately began performing CPR on the child and continued until the little boy began coughing.  PO Acosta monitored the child until emergency medical personnel arrived.

District V Police Officer of the Month
Police Officer Michael Norris

On July 4, 2013, Police Officer Michael Norris was called to the 8700 block of Branch Avenue.  When he arrived, he learned an elderly woman had been assaulted and robbed in a grocery store parking lot.  While canvassing the area, PO Norris spotted a man matching the description of the suspect running across a commercial highway.  After notifying dispatch, PO Norris got out of his cruiser began to run after the suspect across six lanes of traffic.  He was able to continuously broadcast the suspect’s location for other responding patrol officers.  PO Norris was able to catch and arrest the suspect.  PO Norris was then able to return a purse to the victim.

District VI Police Officer of the Month
Police Officer Gregory Mendoza

On July 27, 2013, Police Officer Gregory Mendoza was called to the 14300 block of Cherry Lane Court for the report of a commercial armed robbery.  As PO Mendoza canvassed the area, he spotted two men matching the suspects’ descriptions.  Through his investigation, PO Mendoza was able to positively identify the suspects.  They were both arrested and later also linked to another robbery in the area.
