Detectives recover weapon and return property to victims

Marcus Ford

Anthony Cooper

Tyewon Batchelor

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested three suspects in connection with a string of armed robberies in the Riverdale area.  The suspects are identified as 23-year-old Marcus Jay Ford, 20-year-old Anthony Tyrell Cooper, and 20-year-old Tyewon Lamente Batchelor.  The three suspects live in separate apartments, all in the 900 block of Eastern Avenue in Northeast Washington.

On August 23, 2013, at about 11:15 pm, patrol officers responded for the first armed robbery in the 6800 block of Riverdale Road.  The suspects confronted the victim as he stopped to make a food delivery.  The suspects ordered the victim to the ground at gunpoint, and stole money and property from him, including his cell phone and shoes.

On August 24, 2013, at about 11:30 pm, patrol officers responded to the 5000 block of 55thAvenue in Hyattsville for the second armed robbery.  The suspects confronted the victims as they returned home.  The victims were held at gunpoint, while the suspects stole money and a cell phone.

On August 24, 2013, at about 11:55 pm, patrol officers responded to the 6300 block of Auburn Avenue for the third armed robbery.  The suspects approached the victim as he was walking down the street.  He was held at gunpoint while the suspects stole money and his cell phone.

Investigative developments led detectives to develop Ford as a suspect.  Ford was arrested without incident on August 25 on the Maryland side of Eastern Avenue.  With the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department, detectives subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant on Ford’s home.  The follow up investigation, helped by evidence seized during the initial search warrant, led detectives to identify and arrest Cooper and Batchelor.  Many of the victims’ items were recovered, as well as the handgun used in the robberies.

Captain Jimmy Simms, Commander of the PGPD Regional Investigation Division’s (Northern Region) said, “My Robbery Suppression Team members worked for nearly 40 straight hours to identify and successfully apprehend three extremely dangerous and violent suspects. Their tireless work ethic and dedication to providing the victims a sense of closure and security certainly defines their unwavering service and commitment to the citizens of Prince George’s County.”

Ford and Batchelor admitted their involvement in the robberies.  All three face multiple charges related to the robberies, and remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Anyone with information about these suspects or the robberies are asked to please call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Regional Investigation Division - North at 301-699-2601.
