Retired Police K9 “Andy” Passes Away

Posted on 9:34 AM by Unknown

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Operations Division regrets to inform you of the passing of retired police K9, Andy. Andy was the faithful partner of A/Sgt Robert Heverly.  Andy served as a patrol and drug detection K9 from January 2001 until December 2011.

During his 10-year career with the PGPD, K9 Andy located several suspects, missing persons, evidence and drugs.  In 2002, Andy was awarded an American Red Cross “Real Hero – Medal of Courage” for helping catch an armed carjacking suspect. That arrest led to the closure of a homicide and an armed robbery.

The 14-year-old Belgian Malinois was a cherished partner and member of both the PGPD and Heverly family.   “Andy was a great and loyal dog and will be truly missed,” said A/Sgt Heverly.

For more information, please contact the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Media Relations Division at 301-772-4710.
